The launch today of a consultation on the expansion of HeathrowAirport, which it is widely thought will result in the decision to build athird runway, displays a schizophrenic attitude to climate change according tothe Environmental Transport Association.
Responding to the Heathrow Airport consultation launch today,Andrew Davis, the director at the Environmental Transport Association, said:“Telling us that climate change poses a serious threat to the future of ourplanet one week and then softening us up for major airport expansion the nextis going to leave people understandably confused.”
“Heathrow airport is already the world’s busiest internationalairport. Increasing the number of runways will be damaging both to the globaland local environment. If the airlines had to pay the full economic andenvironmental cost of using Heathrow there would be no need to build anotherrunway”
